The other point I would make is how long a walk it is from green to the next tee box. I'm used to that being very short at Scotland's classic older links (often too short, such as at the Old Course where you're often teeing off right next to greens with balls flying into them). It felt like a 50-100 yard walk from each green to the next tee. By the end of the round, which was windy but with no rain, I was exhausted and it felt like I had walked 15 miles. I decided to play the 18th from the tips, for the hell of it, into a slight breeze. I crushed a driver and two 3-woods and reached a greenside bunker. Just brutal. And yes, it's expensive, but so is Kingsbarns and most other top Scottish courses these days, unfortunately.

And I have to say, I played Royal Aberdeen the day before, and found that even tougher. The wind was up, the fairways were incredibly narrow, and like at Trump, if you missed a fairway by three yards, your ball was gone.

So I found them both incredibly penal and not much fun, then went up to Cruden Bay, one of my old favorites, and shot a great round on a beautiful day. Much more fun than getting my brains beaten in at the two Aberdeen courses.Clarknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-2827335631782139462017-11-24T11:02:01.587-08:002017-11-24T11:02:01.587-08:00Thank you for the "Fair and balanced" co...Thank you for the "Fair and balanced" commentary. It is nice to see someone independent from the golf magazines that are pressured by trump give an opinion that goes against the propaganda and hype. This is one of your best reviews. Seems clear to me that this is not the greatest golf course in the world as the pathological lying owner described it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-6849530411087023722017-11-23T23:04:25.090-08:002017-11-23T23:04:25.090-08:00I played Trump International 2015. The rough is brutal and the wind affects your tee shot even more as most of them are up in the dunes. I also agree that most of the raised greens don't allow a lot of short game options.

In contrast to you I didn't like the 10th hole much. The split fairway simply doesn't make sense and noone picks the route on the right.

On a positive side the course is very picturesque. It does photograph well and some of the internal views are outstanding. I left the course with a sense that the owners goal was more visual drama then playability.flopic7https://www.blogger.com/profile/17432867770623584677noreply@blogger.com
