The point of the redesign/renovation was to add a bit of length for professional competition and to return the course as much as possible to the original Alison design. The renovation was completed earlier this month and it's supposedly spectacular. They've reintroduced the sprawling bunkers and long-range views of the original design. It sounds like a huge success in restoring an important piece of golf history.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-40656984794052868012013-02-26T06:33:22.798-08:002013-02-26T06:33:22.798-08:00Great course. As it's private, you have to be invited. Fortunately, I'm finally going to play it sometime in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know how it goes, but I wanted to send my thanks in advance for this well written review.bilinguruhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00965321537983477132noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-27873403658782051812010-01-29T02:23:34.501-08:002010-01-29T02:23:34.501-08:00Hi- Enjoy the website, good descriptions of Hirono...Hi- Enjoy the website, good descriptions of Hirono and golf in Japan in general. I'm based out of Kobe and hoping to get a round there sometime this year.

From the photos it seems like Hirono - 1933 would have been something special. Unfortunately, Japan likes their golf courses polished.

For those curious about the comment above in Japanese, it's something like, 'hey, would you like to meet a girl? we can introduce you.' I was hoping for some local thoughts on the course, but it's spam. 貴方も新たな出会いを経験してみませんか逆円助http://new.googlejuku-navi.netnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-8010540455867825252009-01-03T07:01:00.000-08:002009-01-03T07:01:00.000-08:00Wow -- that old photo sitting next to the new one ...Wow -- that old photo sitting next to the new one shows how easy a restoration of the place could be. It is not a course where you can just blast away, you have to think your way around the course. The bunkering is very strategic and each hole presents various risk/reward options. The par threes excel. In my view it belongs squarely in the top 50, clearly a better course than some other US courses that I think are overrated by comparison such as Baltusrol and Oak HillTop 100 Golferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16730165824981497579noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-10540906297473310702008-12-02T09:47:00.000-08:002008-12-02T09:47:00.000-08:00Where would you rate Hirono in comparison to other...Where would you rate Hirono in comparison to other highly ranked inland US courses such as Pine Valley, Merion, Oak Hill, etc.....

It seems to me like it gets so much credit for being exotic because it is located in Japan. How can a course with round, flat greens be considered top 50 in the world? I have never been but am curious as to what you think exactly makes it world top 50.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12583593995421112283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-74344463052056627532008-12-02T09:42:00.000-08:002008-12-02T09:42:00.000-08:00Where would you rate Hirono in comparison to other...Where would you rate Hirono in comparison to other highly ranked US courses such as Pine Valley, Merion, Oak Hill, etc.....

It seems to me like it gets so much credit for being exotic and located in Japan.
