Lots of trout in the creek too, especially in the pools near the bottom. Take some bits of bread, and enjoy the show as the trout vie for it!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-39217740897283944452017-04-17T11:05:54.659-07:002017-04-17T11:05:54.659-07:00Agree with the assessment that this is not a Top 1...Agree with the assessment that this is not a Top 100 course. Probably at one point but not now. Historic - yes, at least since golf has been played there continuously for almost 100 years. Challenging - yes, as noted in the review, getting out of position with slope, heavy rough and tiny greens can ruin a scorecard (Shot a 38 on the front then went double, double, triple on 10 thru 12). Fun - yes, doesn't require exceptional length off the tee but it will require solid and creative shots. 12 is a very hard hole, and 15 is very tough. A number of 400+ yard par fours and longish par threes with small greens keep it interesting. Small bunkers increase the likelihood of landing near an edge, making up and down harder on some holes. We went off early and basically had the course to ourselves, so it was very enjoyable pace of play and an aesthetically pleasing course.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-50669563094602762522013-01-28T15:22:57.228-08:002013-01-28T15:22:57.228-08:00One of the things I remember most from playing thi...One of the things I remember most from playing this course, is hearing the story of how Sam Snead finished the back nine with all 3's. Excellent food and a great atmosphere. Sam Snead's Tavern is another local spot with great character, food, and golf memorabilia.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-2609536085834836562012-03-07T06:59:53.914-08:002012-03-07T06:59:53.914-08:00Agree on the previous comment regarding #12, which...Agree on the previous comment regarding #12, which is as good a golf hole (and as scenic) as you will find anywhere and the stretch of 12-15 is just tough!<br />#17 is called Cress Lakes, not HEmlocks (which is #14).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-31952100798154055752012-02-04T11:10:53.005-08:002012-02-04T11:10:53.005-08:00I was surprised you stopped your commentary on the...I was surprised you stopped your commentary on the 11th when the 12the hole is spectacular..
