It is nestled into it's surroundings so naturally and what in part makes it so great. I wish that you would include a kudos to the golf course superintendent "Jason Sperring" and his maintenance staff. They are often the most important element of the over all course conditions on a daily basis. They are over looked by golfers and members alike. In fact many members at all level clubs in the country don't even know the name of the superintendt. They will know the head golf pro and his Proshop staff by name. Without the superintendent and his staff we would not have the day to day conditions that we have come accustom to expect. No matter how good the design, ratings, or local hero's that may be members at the club without the maintenance staff you would not have a course to play on. So many times we give the Head Pro and his staff and think they are the reason the course is in the condition is. Well to be honet it is not the Pro or the Proshop staff play a part in the conditioning of the course. As golfers we will be the first to jump on the band wagon and when course conditions are sub par but if they are great we might tell the Proshop. But trust me this often doesn't make it to the maintenance staff. The Proshop is not the area or correct persons that need to know if the conditions are good or not. Take the time next round of golf that you play and thank the golf course superintendent and his staff for the hard work they do. Without the maintenance staff at Ocean Forest and all the clubs we play at we might as well go to a cow pastures or feild of any type and play just plant a flag anywhere. If we where to do that I don't think golf would have quite the following that it hasAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-16871919075887127322010-02-05T19:59:48.393-08:002010-02-05T19:59:48.393-08:00Top ten golf clubs in the SE USA? People always make the places you visit and the staffs assembled by Golf Professional's Andrew Shuck at Ocean Forest and Steve Archer at Frederica are exceptional. As a visitor I was made to feel so much at home that my experience was greatly enhanced by their genuine southern hospitality. I agree wholeheartedly of the "Seminole like" reference of the O.F. locker room (it is fabulous), however I find objection with your discourse regarding the links. In establishing an opinion of the course, it is important to note that virtually no earth was moved in construction. The rolly polly feel of 2nd and 3rd fairways are completely natural and the exposed outcroppings of land that provide splendid vistas of the sea have been there since Fort Frederica (hence the name of nearby Frederica Golf Club)was the British military headquarters in colonial America.

Through personal experiences, I have also found Davis Love III to be a fine southern gentlemen that represents the game and his family name in a humble and gracious manner...sports needs more DL III's and less showboating.

Wishing these two great clubs all the best!

BTAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-87492958813510212152009-06-30T10:19:54.666-07:002009-06-30T10:19:54.666-07:00lol on Davis Love III.
