The course stayed open and our tee time wasn't moved at all. He took us to the pro shop, bought us a shirt and off we went. The club had an official greeter at that time, a former Ohio State defensive back who told us a few stories about John McConnell. One, that his accountant told him he would lose $1 million/year with the business model of exclusive and limited membership - to which McConnell replied, "well, I'm a billionaire so it will be 1,000 years before it goes broke", and two, that he was not a golfer yet used to sit by the 18th green and make fun of those who didn't go for it in two. At 500+ yards, carrying the water on the second shot made this a real challenge and am glad he wasn't there to see me lay up. It is in immaculate condition and we only saw one other group the whole day. Caddies said it wasn't unusual to only have 3-4 groups a day. It was unfortunate that the power was still out when we finished, so we weren't able to enjoy apres golf in the clubhouse. For an Ohio State fan, it was cool to change shoes in front of Archie Griffin's (the only two time Heisman winner) locker.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-37000642126360199042023-02-07T12:56:05.985-08:002023-02-07T12:56:05.985-08:00I played St. Georges this summer about one month a...I played St. Georges this summer about one month after the Canadian Open (which still had the club buzzing with Rory's impressive win) and I was blown away at how much more I enjoyed the course than I thought I would. The ravine flow of the course gave the perfect amount of elevation change and the bunkering around the entrances to so many of the greens was visually stunning. I left the course on a high and couldn't think of any criticisms.

Then the next day I played Toronto Golf Club (generally ranked slightly behind StG in Canada) and this Harry Colt design is truly next level. While it may not have the acclaim of StG, it to my mind is far superior course and test of golf. I also understand that it recently went through a massive tree removal program, which has made the course come alive. So much so, that I am strongly considering non-resident membership.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-64277572471175501062023-01-29T11:40:22.995-08:002023-01-29T11:40:22.995-08:00I caddied at Myopia from 1950-1954 as we lived in ...I caddied at Myopia from 1950-1954 as we lived in South Hamilton. I used to caddy for Mr Boardman or Mr Knowles who excellent golfers and gentlemen. Also caddied president of GILLETTE Razor company. In the mid 2012 era I was able to take my son to the club and we both had the pleasure of playing the course.Nothing had changed except the size of the trees. This is something I will never forget.I have a photo of the 9th hole that my son took that is hanging in my living room. All the barrels, beer, old dove-tail cabins as restrooms on course, long private driveway, incredible course and topography, stunning overnight cabins…sounds like Honors to me perhaps without the snobbery.
