The course stayed open and our tee time wasn't moved at all. He took us to the pro shop, bought us a shirt and off we went. The club had an official greeter at that time, a former Ohio State defensive back who told us a few stories about John McConnell. One, that his accountant told him he would lose $1 million/year with the business model of exclusive and limited membership - to which McConnell replied, "well, I'm a billionaire so it will be 1,000 years before it goes broke", and two, that he was not a golfer yet used to sit by the 18th green and make fun of those who didn't go for it in two. At 500+ yards, carrying the water on the second shot made this a real challenge and am glad he wasn't there to see me lay up. It is in immaculate condition and we only saw one other group the whole day. Caddies said it wasn't unusual to only have 3-4 groups a day. It was unfortunate that the power was still out when we finished, so we weren't able to enjoy apres golf in the clubhouse. For an Ohio State fan, it was cool to change shoes in front of Archie Griffin's (the only two time Heisman winner) locker.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-45766608739558095242022-08-15T19:23:44.125-07:002022-08-15T19:23:44.125-07:00This is great! I don’t think I’ve ever commented and I haven’t read your posts in probably over 3-4 years, but I wanted to take a moment now. Back in the fall of 2009, I read your posts every single night for hours. At the time I was going through a dreadful point of my life. I was brutally depressed every day. I was shortly removed from active drug addiction. I was in a brutal, abusive relationship, just trying to make the relationship work for the sake of our newborn daughter. I had nothing, that is to say, nothing besides reading your posts and dreaming that one day I could make my dreams come true to play on some of the courses you have played. I went to college, and in one class I stated that my goal was to play the top 100 golf courses in the world. I reasoned that if I was able to do that, it means I would have enough wealth to do so and have made great friendships to get on the courses. Well ten years on and I am now a lawyer, my daughter has grown up beautifully, my relationship is over, and I’ve managed to play about 10-12 of these courses. I just checked in for the first time in years to see if Newport national was on the list and saw the post about your cancer. I just wanted to let you know the massive impact you’ve had on my life and I wish you the best of luck.

Best,

BMBAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20412896.post-3801472351781067352019-07-30T15:10:48.022-07:002019-07-30T15:10:48.022-07:00Great to see you back!!Great to see you back!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
